Day's 1 thru 3

Okay, so I finally have some time to sit down and write down some thoughts. Today is January 19 at 8:20am, and the beginning of Day 4. So let me catch up on  Days 1 thru 3.

Day 1:
Arriving

We flew in to Charles de Gaulle airport around 8 in the morning and picked up our bags (thank goodness they were there) and picked up a taxi.  The taxi driver was extremely nice and friendly and spoke to me in french and we were able to communicate pretty well, although we both threw in some english from time to time.  When he dropped us off at our apartment, my first thought was, wow this is in the ghetto.  And yes, it was in a bit of a poor area.  We went up stairs, Aubrey took the tiny elevator, and I took the stairs, 8 floors to the top floor where our apartment is.  I was definately huffing and puffing at the end of that.  We then looked at each other  because there were several apartments, it seemed, on top.  We didnt have internet access to look at the email (should have printed it out in hind sight) and all seemed hopeless. I finally just rang the doorbell on one of the doors upstairs and an old sweet french lady came to the door.  I asked her if she spoke english and she summoned her husband to come.  Suddenly, down the hall, another door opened and there was our host.  We apologized to the couple and went to meet Fred.  Fred was as french a person as I've seen in Paris.  HUGE schnoz and an accent that totally masked the english, where sometimes I didnt know which language he was speaking in.  He gave us the grand tour of the apartment which I actually liked.  The outside of the place totally gave me the heebie jeebies, but the inside was amazing.  After he showed us everything, he informed us that he never received the museum pass that we ordered.  That was a bit frustrating so he told us to go down to the Paris office of Tourism and ask them if they had it.  When he left, we took some pictures on the terrace and then had our first french food... croissants.  And they were better than can be imagined.  We showered, changed and then took off to find the metro and make our way to the Tourism office.
